I think they got some strange law in the US in some states where if you're living in the same place with a foid with kids that aren't yours after a few years you're legally their father and required to support them or something like that.

In the US it doesn't work that way. If you don't prove you are not the father quickly enough you're stuck footing the bill even if you prove it later.
