Some races have ‘noble’ traits

White colonisers when they came to Sub-Saharan Africa first divided the tribes they discovered based on those who were ‘noble’ or ‘racially’ superior vs those who are ‘primitive’ and ‘negroid’. Even if all were mudhut dwelling ‘savages’, there were some who just seemed ‘superior’ for some reason. Like the Tutsi vs the Hutu

These ‘noble’ races carry an air of dignity and ‘purity’ even in spite of poverty. Before the discovery of oil, Bedouin camel herders would still see themselves as noble kings and princes despite being thirsty barbarians who fight each other over watering wells.

Chinamen however completely lack this, coming off as defiled and corrupted bugmen masses with no real honour or values. No matter how wealthy or ‘great’ a chink gets he’ll always be an ‘impure’ subhuman. Not hating on chinks BTW it’s just something I’ve noticed. When you compare it to Japanese Ainu/Jomon samurai spirit it’s like night and day

Yes, this was apparently the case in Syria, where French colonial authorities deemed the Nusayri "warrior-like" and disproportionately enlisted them in the army.

This brought about the Nusayri coup and domination of the country during the Assad era.

Yeah, even in former European colonies, I think the categorization of the natives were driven primarily by political interests (divide and rule) rather than meritocracy.
