Me desperately trying to work out why I don't play many modern games

It's proper weird.

I mean, my top 5 games ever are Phantasy Star Universe, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure 2, Jet Set Radio and Roblox Jailbreak ^_^

After that I often put FEAR 2, Red Alert 2 and NiGHTS.

I guess the kinds of games I like are just quite rare. And I can't justify buying a whole console just for one game really.

Most of the games that look good to me get panned, lol. Like Sonic Superstars, Sonic Dream Team (which I completed!)... and Redfall which I thought looked pretty cool as it really reminded me of FEAR!

Oh, Phantasy Star Online 2 I'd probably play if it wasn't for all the huge downloads you need for MMOs these days.

I used to think it was all wokeness putting me off but I don't think it's just that or even just the big downloads and stuff. I think it's mostly that there just aren't that many games that look good to me these days.

Less cutscenes and shorter cutscenes would be good where they get to the point wuick and let the player play asap.

Sometimes it is good to say / show less and leave the rest up to the imagination of the player, imo.

When you say about leaving things to your imagination... I totally agree because these days it's like they think everything needs to be spelled out. Yellow paint to tell you where to go, constant dialogue from everyone, etc.

Whereas in a game like Half-Life Gordon didn't even talk! Much of the game had no dialogue it was just you trying to make sense of the world the game had placed you in. You had the space to think for yourself.

I definitely tend to like games that allow me to zone out sometimes or at least freely process things while playing.

It always surprises me in the modern AAAs when the characters often seem to have pretty much non-stop dialogue. And it's usually nonsense too. Just unfunny jokes or random filler.

I actually completed the Half-Life expansion Blue Shift recently... probably for the second time but the first was probably in 2002 or 2003!

I definitely felt really good after finishing it! It has a pleasant ending and old school vibes and I went down the shop for snacks after and just felt great!

I don't know if most of these modern games would give that nice high afterwards!

it's already like that, most normies are zombies who do not think. The newer generations are already fucked. Even the recent trend about "proper parenting" is just another trend meant to fade away in little time. You'll have some people who will decide to properly raise children and 1000000 more that decide not to. It's just pitiable.

Black Ops 1 was gold, I remember freeing myself from the chair and putting a code on a terminal to get one of the maps, it was one of the only CODs ive ever enjoyed

The biggest issue I have is the fact that many modern AAA games are boring since they all seem like formulaic copies of each other and are full of microtransactions and the cost of games keeps spiking in addition to all of the DRM crap. Also, many AAA releases are also unoptimized buggy messes like Borderlands 4.

This is why most of the games I buy and enjoy now are indie games as you do not have to pay out the ass for an enjoyable game and there is still some creativity left in the indie game industry. Plus, the hardware requirements are generally pretty reasonable with the techbros hording all of the RAM and pricing it out of everybody's reach.

Realistically speaking, no foids in my country ever played video games in the early 2000s, only with dolls. Now, they are flooding into video games like crazy, and a lot of things that used to have personality, start turning into absolute dogshit. Video games company just want to attract more foids because somehow all the male gamer population isn't enough, and to do that, they had to changed a lot of things that affected the overall quality of the games, just for the sake of the appeal to the foids.
