Super interesting. It does sound plausible given the time dilation that the brain experiences during stressful and traumatic moments. Coupled with the firing of the hippocampus and the subsequent aforementioned DMT release that accompanies it. Where people go through the notorious "life review" slideshow wherein they experience every memory all over again within seconds. Where they undergo that DMT release and the consequential hallucinations where people, again, have purported to experience entire lifetimes. All of this compounding onto each other makes a rather compelling argument for this case of a self generated afterlife. Especially considering how personal and self-referential these DMT hallucinations tend to be.
This would explain how varied all of the near death experiences are. Where your conceptions of the world acts like primer to facilitate the hallucinations. If you believe in God, you'll see Jesus and your loved ones in heaven. If you're a conspiracy theorist, you might see aliens. If you're an atheist you might not see much if anything.
You know, I have never thought of death like this. It's always been this binary for me: lights on, lights off. I never took the time to really imagine just how much your perception of time will be distorted as your consciousness ebbs. How every moment of time could indefinitely be subdivided as an infinite passage like that one thought experiment in ancient greek philosophy by Xeno, with the Tortoise and Achilles.
The most terrifying thing in this world is not monsters, demons, death, or evil. It's the truth, whatever that is.

I've read stuff like that before and even seen it referenced in media, but it still is jarring to think that something so consistent with human existence like death has always been a complete mystery and the most common way to go at it is just go "well, don't think too much about it, it'll sort itself out when it happens"
All I can say, with a fair degree of certainty, is that this is an original conclusion I've reached from years of study and exposure about various topics. I haven't seen it in any of Jung's works. As far as I can tell, this is the one time that I can be fairly sure that the idea is original, unlike the many other times where I believed my thought to be original, only to found out that somebody thought of it and wrote in a book hundreds or thousands of years ago.
You feel at peace when you simply let go and accept your fate. The reasons are both physiological and psychological. There's a mental shift and your body responds differently. You don't feel adrenaline or any other kind of stress. You don't feel worry and think about any future, because there is no more future. This is it.
