More useless platitudes spewed by normalfags.
Self-esteem is (especially in the most crucial periods of its formation) always dependent on the resonance of others, it needs resonance to form. Having self-esteem without an empirical basis serving as its justification is correctly identified as hubris, the resonance serves as the empirical prove of one's abilities. Especially because trusting yourself can often lead to undesirable results either by an underestimation or overestimation of one's abilities due to a bias that everyone has to a certain degree when it comes to personal evaluation - most of the time these beliefs are then brutally smashed when suddenly someone judges these abilities in a real/honest way.
Just fucking lol, no person exists in a vacuum - and every person bases his own value in the judgement/thoughts of others.
No matter whether they are contrarians and deliberately choose to rebel agains the rules of a society due to despising its current set of values (and wanting to see shock in the eyes of the representatives of the social order they despise by doing so) or whether they are complete conformers/human doormats - the reaction of others is always what they want, be it in a positive way or negative way. No person is truly unaffected by the judgement of others - neither the conformer nor the rebel without a cause.
And even someone who has had an empirical basis for believing in his own abilities in the past can become distrustful of them when too much unwanted responses come in - after a series of failures even an experienced doctor will start to question his own abilities for example. No "real" self-esteem can exist/can be maintained without positive reinforcement from others (if it exists without it normalfags call it arrogance/hubris anyways). And still that retarded platitude comes up all the time, literally "Become an Übermensch who doesn't care about social validition, bro!" - literally nobody is able to do that.
