His exit was abrupt, final and understated (he posted it to The Sewers and the post contained no further context), so it's quite possible he unexpectedly ascended in my view.

To elaborate on his exit likely being spontaneous, he predicted that he would be still be using the forum by October of this year, so I don't think him leaving was planned. I don't think that he expressed any desires to distance himself from the forum in the past either, though I may be wrong.
To be fair that's exactly what I'd do in that situation.
