A notice board if it were. I think that would be good to know. I just don't like it when peoples names are lined & you don't know whether they're temp banned or permanent banned.

This is not a bad idea but I don't think that it is viable. Firstly, listing "for what" would potentially make people targets for harassment in the future, which isn't something we support. Secondly, I don't believe there is a feature we can just flip on that would do anything like this - in my experience with such features on other forums, it requires a script and ghost user that has special privileges to post in a designated thread using an automated script, which is too much work for too little benefit. Thirdly, we have other reasons beyond convenience for having the rules we have in the OP, namely: ask the person who got banned what they got banned for if you're curious, for how long they are gone, etc., and that we are not obligated to divulge such information.

Only if they didn't manually set one themselves. For example, if you ever got banned, your "title" wouldn't change.

There was a "user was banned for this post" feature but it usually was only used jokingly. A lot of objectionable posts get removed anyway.

That feature is actually just an extension of a regular warning, and has to be typed in manually each time. I used it in cases where it didn't make sense to just remove the post, as it had been quoted multiple times and would take more work to remove each post than to put a public notice on it, but after further discussions with the mod team we've agreed to not use public notices and delete content instead.

This was explained on the previous page.

We have a new filtering process that allows us a more thorough vetting process for some applicants. This involves accepting them as members but not letting them post until they pass the second filter. This isn't the norm, it is only for exceptions. In between those 3 banned members, there were probably others who were outright rejected.

No idea. He hasn't been online since February and the warnings were given prior to the migration to the new xenforo-style forum layout, so they were lost.

At @mental_out does this mean D @Bose_2003 is gone for good considering he had already used his one unban?

If not I could use a similar arrangement myself. It is already far past my bed time and I haven't long until I depart and have yet to start formally studying my Japanese though I pick up my last book tomorrow (Remembering the Kanji 1) so now would be a good time to begin. I also need to get back to the gym in anticipation and though I planned to return tomorrow I can already feel the procrastination building.

The only reason I haven't asked for a voluntary ban is because I know I will cave and need another one but at that point it would not be voluntary anymore as I would've already used my one unban.

PSA: @Razovik aka @notafed has received a 60% warning in order to match his main account's warning level prior to requesting a permaban. This is according to procedure so that people don't use alts to hide from warning levels/potential bans. As far as I know, he hasn't done anything wrong; this is just a formality, and the reason I am making this post is because I know someone will inevitably say something like "notafed made an alt and got banned in less than a day, what did he do ?" or "#freenotafed" or " @Razovik is it perm or temp????" etc.

I have communicated with the other members of the moderator team when I issued the warning and they made it so that both users can maintain their posting privileges despite being at their current warning level, because they are also capable of doing so if they request an un-ban on their main account/if they continue posting on their main account.
