Seriously. Those schools select the smartest (verbal + nonverbal psychometric abilities) and richest individuals. Kids with rich parents naturally have greater verbal abilities due to a greater exposure of different types of lingo/vocabulary from their parents (as a direct result of more income/resources/materials in the household).

They also wanna see if you have any extra-curricular activities (popularity in high school). They're essentially selecting for the most smartest and most good looking people.
