Fighting games aren’t super duper niche but theyre not as popular among gamers as FPS or MMORPGs, etc. Why do you think this is the case? I personally love fighting games specially tekken and guilty gear, I also play 2xko but not as much (about 80 hours).

Do you play fighting games? How often? Why or why not?

The game I have the most hours on is a platform fighting game, SSBU or SSB4, I don't remember which one I have more hours on, I just got decent at it and I enjoy it
Fighting games aren't beginner friendly, at all, it is a weedout for most normies (excluding Smash). You can have 500 hours which would be enough in most FPS or MMORPGs, and you will still just be scratching the surface in fundamentals. Then with FPS and MMORPGs, they are similar enough to transfer experience onto, say if you play call of duty and decide to switch to another FPS game, fighting games it is similar but not so much, as every game has different BS
But most importantly, the price!!!!
FPS games and MMORPGS are free (most)
Fighting games are always sort of expensive (almost non are free) unless on sale

The animation is really bs. At least the shooting game looks less cringeful than pressing the right key combination to make the character dance and spin around senselessly.

Fuck you small minded ass normie ass npc fps goyslopswallower ass nigga

Would be news to me. Both Tekken and Super Smash Bros e.g. have millions of copies sold

The games can be fun, it's good to play with someone you know, because you can learn the game at a consistent rate but if you want to play online everyone takes that shit so seriously so if you haven't spent days in training mode grinding out combos and learning interactions you're just going to get clapped by some trannie, this is obviously more of a problem with older less populated games but allot of normies are just going to try the game once get destroyed and then give up, not to mention how every game can have tons of features to learn, characters having massive move lists plus motion inputs, add to that fighting games tend to have a lack of good single player modes, they rely on mainly multiplayer, modern games have tried to help this with simple controls settings etc but the problem is always there. I like guilty gear (the 2d ones don't like Strive its fake and gay) and Blazblue (not really as cool as guilty gear but has things I like about it).

Retarded thread, fighting games are not niche at all

it's because of motion inputs normies like simple inputs like from shooters

also fighting games are generally super fast and you need some kind of flowchart on what to do instead of just mindlessly button mashing. There's also lack of singleplayer content, suffers from being too arcadey and repetitive.

There are many reasons why fighting games will always be niche, but one of the biggest is defense. Most games are basically a power trip for the player, so even when you're 'defending,' you still have some kind of advantage. Normies just can't wrap their heads around a fair system where sometimes the other guy has the advantage and they just have to sit there and take it. It hurts their ego. In games like CS you can always blame the team, but in fighting games, it's all on you.

They can be quite arduous to get good at.

It didn't do shit

The game is overrated as fuck and is a clunky mess when going back to it.

Because fighting games appeal only to specific group of people with autism who are willingly to spend hours learning obscure combos to get slightly better at the game, the skill curve scares away a lot of normies.

Its the high skill ceiling honestly. It's really hard to get into and you have to get you ass whooped a lot to be competent. Also it's learning frame data and all that, it's tough for most people.
