They don’t actually play for the gameplay, they play for the optics. Sitting on the couch learning combos in tekken or playing a complex strategy game looks either childish or like nerd shit to them. It screams 'I have no life' or 'basement dwelling manchild.' They’re terrified of their normie friends judging them.

That’s why they’re so obsessed with realism, and games 'becoming mature.' That’s why they praise pseudo intellectual slop like Silent Hill 2 or bloated movie games like RDR2 and The Last of Us. That shit lets them pretend they're consuming 'serious, mature, artistic' media instead of actually playing games.

They can brag to their friends: 'Yeah bro, I’m playing this cinematic masterpiece with super emotional story,':soy: and sound like a cultured adult instead of some loser mashing buttons. Meanwhile the actual gameplay is dogshit: forced slow walking sections, hand holding, QTEs, so they never have to feel bad at the game.

It’s all about status signaling. They’re ashamed of video games that actually look and feel like video games.

And yeah, that makes them the childish ones. Real adults don’t give a fuck if something looks nerdy or childish as long as it’s actually fun. Only normie midwits need their entertainment loaded with fake maturity so they don’t lose face in front of other midwits.

That's casual gaming for you.

Spot on, ngl.

I think appreciating a game mostly for its artistic aspects is valid too. Morrowind is my favorite videogame and it is primarily because of the art, lore and atmosphere. And you can see how horrible Oblivion became tone-wise within the first seconds of gameplay because Bethesda decided to go in a less mature and poetic way. Videogames are an art form and could be experienced with that in mind, if you consider or focus mostly on mechanics it becomes soulless, in my opinion. But I agree normies are performative about it, like they are with most things. What I've observed though is that they in fact tend to make things less mature exactly because of their pretentiousness, think of the Fallout series and how it becomes less "serious" and less literary complex with each entry because Bethesda noticed it is what brings profit, Fallout 3 sold more than New Vegas and 4 even more with its abysmal lore and plot.
False depth, false maturity, shallow artistic expression, these are the consequences of normie taste dictating game development

My imaginary girlfriend in Skyrim, chilling at the beach after saving the world from at least three existential threats and running out of Thalmor :soy: NAZIS to kill...

Those type of videogames never phased me. I just want to loot, kill, and goof around.

Yeah they always seem like games made for people who don't really like games.

Games for those who don't want to play

I played tekken by smashing random buttons

I'm 44, what looks old to you is perfectly acceptable to me.

It's been a long time since those pics were taken, the mod list has moved on since then. But I don't want more recent pics that are posted in more cucked places to also be on incels.is.... :feelsaww:

They are ashamed of being straight at this point

Real video games are fun. If it's not fun, what's the point?
