At some point in life I learnt it’s ok for people to disrespect me, lash out at me and order me around but if I do the same thing I’m in the wrong somehow.

Lashing out is the worst thing. People can yell at me to ‘shut up’ for no reason (I’m not even talking to them), get mad at me over some mistake I made (I’m doing them a favour out of politeness btw) or treat me like some nuisance for asking a benign question or saying hello. Then what’s worse is I’ll often apologise for bothering them!

The problem is I never retaliate to this mistreatment. Heck I don’t even realise I’ve been bitched unless someone else intervenes or chastises me for not standing up for myself. It’s crazy
