Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is a late '90s game and I can see at least 2 things in this picture alone that would I guess be considered "politically incorrect" today!

Hm I see your point actually because at around that time they also didn't censor violence as much.

I didn't really mind that they did that though. I actually think Mortal Kombat and many other games actually benefited from that censorship because they couldn't rely on sheer brutality and shock factor and had to be creative instead! Plus it may well have been better for society that way.

But that's a different topic I guess :)

Doesn't it just mean the popular games with relatively large budgets?

For example Sonic 3 or Doom 2.

wrong AAA games came in 90s one of the most expensive game back then was Final Fantasy 7, 3d GTA games were all AAA in budget and scope
