Jared Diamond in his book "Collapse" he shows that civilizations don't collapse suddenly, but gradually, often without the majority of people realizing it in time.
The collapse of societies is comparable to an iceberg: there is the visible surface, which corresponds to a form of collective denial or social torpor. A kind of deceptive tranquility and stability maintained by routine, comfort, entertainment like vidya and music, screens, everything that distracts us from what is really happening.
Meanwhile, the submerged mass is melting:
A slow, invisible, insidious erosion , foundations are weakening and balances are being disrupted... Let us remember that no civilization has survived to this day.
