I would rather not go post gen 7 since I haven't played those games yet.
I am partial to gen 1, 3, 5 and 7. 1 is buggy as shit but has an awesome metagame that has not been replicated in a pokemon game since. 3 is the end of the physical special split, allowing for some pokemon to be viable. 5 has no shitty one time only gimmicks and keeps the weather mechanic eternal if used as an ability which is fun. 7 is probably the most balanced.
Oh, but if we do monotype we are doing 7. I like options.

(Sadly up to this day, I only have the pokemon team used in ?'s battle, I haven't made another one sadly)
