It's always so funny when people claim that modern action games and souls slop have more depth than action games of the past. In Ninja Gaiden and DMC, not only were you capable of rolling, blocking, and counter blocking, but you were also capable of a variety of attacks and combos that completely overshadow any depth in modern souls slop action games. Let's not also forget that these old action games were much faster than modern souls slop. You needed lighting fast reaction times to fend off hoards of enemies. Especially in a game like Ninja Gaiden.

Now, I'm not targeting Dark Souls or other from soft games in this post as Dark Souls was not intended to be an action game. I'd be a hypocrite as a fan of Monster Hunter, (although MH certainly has more weapon depth) if I claimed that the main gameplay loop of slowly chopping away at a giant bosses health while avoiding attacks didn't have its own merit. My issue is that companies outside of fromsoft, try to apply this same simplistic action RPG combat system to every action game.

Ofc, you could argue that the same occurred with God of War clones during the 2000s. God of War was a simplified and bastardized clone of DMC that lacked DMC's depth and difficulty. Other game companies opted to copy God of War and release these mindless spectacle back and slash games. And ofc we can't forget the amount of brainless Arkham Creed clones.

None the less, it is disappointing that almost every new action game is some dumbed down souls clone.

Souls games and the likes are just trial and error games that don’t actually take skill, you just throw urself at enemies until you know the attack pattern this appeals to normies since they don’t actually like hard games, but what they really like is the feeling of beating a game that is praised as being the hardest game by other normies so then they can go shitting on others with “skill issue just get gud” etc.

Have you beaten god of war games in maximum difficulty? I assure you its not easy. If you play in lower difficulty then ofc the game is easy and no challenge

You can easily outlevel the enemies as mobs are constantly respawning. Only with ER it's harder as some bosses have ultra bullshit aoe attacks that have bad hitboxes. It's the worst designed game made by From, they may as well turn it into FF14 or Guild wars 2 at this point with so many raid bosses like battles.

I just like the variety of builds

Simplicity is key sometimes. Wich is why Dark Souls was much better than Elden Ring
