Pretty good
. By default it shows Malaysian data, but you can look at any country they have there. If there's anything to complain about, it's that it doesn't go past the top countries for both types of migration flows. I can see why, the top countries seem to be responsible for most of those in just about all those countries, but still, it could be interesting if there was a way to show those countries which are just hidden as "+ X others".
ourworldindata.org
The default Malaysian data is pretty funny when it comes to its neighbours, and shows you what to expect. Malaysia is wealthier than Indonesia, and so it has over 10 times as many Indonesian migrants as it sent emigrants to Indonesia, and in turn it's poorer than Singapore, so it has 20 times as many migrants there than it received from the latter.
One of the biggest surprises I got there was that Ethiopia has an equal amount of immigrants and emigrants. A low-income country with neutral net migration overall
.
Bosnia and Herzegovina has got to have one of the most lopsided migration ratios there. Close to 50 times as many people have left it than moved there, and over time, the amount of migrants living there is actually going down while the amount of emigrants is growing
.
And lastly, it's kinda wild that there's more Americans than Japanese living in China. Just seems counterintuitive.
Where do migrants live, and where were they born?
An interactive tool that helps us see where migrants were born, and where they live now.
