. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this war will start a dark age of East Slavic men (unless Ukrainians will use the really good drones they are making right now and end up exporting them and making fortunes out of that). In theory, that's not bad for non-East Slavs like me, but still uncomfortable given the decline of EE's importance and geopolitical pull this will result in, as well as sad to see.

I like comparing them to Japan, since they have similar populations, and in this case, it's almost sad. Russia has been one of the fastest-growing major economies for the last few decades, Japan has had an anemic economy for as long if not longer, but as this infographic shows, it hasn't been enough for the former to catch up, and now, it seems that the distance between them is bound to widen even more.
Apart from that, Brazil is apparently about to overtake Russia in this area, mirroring what had happened between the two according to the newest data on scientific publications by country, which makes sense as scientific publications are one of the things most correlated with GDP, and sending Russia to the 4th spot out of the original BRICS, now above just South Africa in those two areas. Mexico is also about to overtake it according to this infographic, which, now that I think about it, Mexico is probably a much better country to compare Russia to than Japan, since those three have similar populations, but Mexico is overall much more similar to Russia in most regards and in their general development and technological level. The difference there is that Russia has actually been growing quite quickly in recent past, while Mexico is a country that notoriously has trouble with economic growth.
Finally, Canada is also poised to overtake Russia while Australia is going to be neck-and-neck with it, those two being Anglosphere countries with much lower populations and which, especially the former, are routinely pushed around by the US, with their overtaking of Russia in terms of total economic size being probably the best symbol of the death of any hopes of Russia being a possible rival or a peer adversary to Anglos and the wider West in any way.
And it's not just about the wider economy. According to the newest Frank Knight Wealth report, Russia's already unimpressive ultra-high net worth (UHNWI) population is about to see one of the weakest growths globally.

Now, that's obviously not bad by itself, if anything, having fewer ultra-richfags would be better in many ways, but given that Russia is a notoriously unequal country, the fact that despite all of that inequality they are going to see such small increase among their super-rich, speaks volumes. Their oligarchs are getting just about everything, and it's nowhere near enough for the Epstein class there to grow at any decent rate
