This idea was crazy enough that I think it warrants it's own thread.
According to Marx, the Christian State is an imperfect State because it has not yet absorbed and codified the secular human basis (societal structures) that give rise to Christianity. So it must use Christianity (or religion in general) as a crutch to make up for that defeciency. Since it lacks the human basis it must adopt the religious belief system that arises from it , to be relevant and functional to the system it is governing over. It's doomed to make politics a religious matter and religion a political matter.
On the other hand a secular State, according to him, is a "perfected" State. It has adopt the human basis of Christianity and therefore does not need to profess the religion itself.
He even goes on to claim that the secular State is not a true atheist state. Infact it's the perfect Christian State.
