i was a christian (never baptized tho) for less than 1 yr when i was an undergraduate. the reasons were complex:
now back to the beginning. the study of revelations and the book of daniel yield little results. the classical interpretation of these books is just reformation era anti-rome propaganda. i changed my view of history naturally after leaving the religion. and i am still processing the major setback to this day.
so what does the religion sell? except "heaven" and "hell"?
The first promise is salvation from nihilism. this doesn't work because i haven't possessed the skill of double thinking. u can't believe a thing knowing it's false.
how did i find that christianity is false? i believe a person with normal cognitive abilities and reading skills ( that is, u remember what chapter 3 says when reading chapter 8) would naturally reach the conclusion that the bible is bs fairytale and jebus is just a lunatic doomsday preacher.
The second promise is community and social circle. this doesn't work because i found the seemingly friendly church mates were just anxious to get u baptized. once u are already baptized, or u needs to take some time, they gradually lost all interest in u.
The third promise is intellectual resources of christianity. the merit of this soon disappeared when i began my quest for philosophy. i started to despise christian theologians or philosophers flirting with christianity.
The fourth promise is a normie life. meet a girl at church activities, get married and have kids. i soon found that foids are foids, no matter what religion they believe in.
- i encountered a major setback in my studies, and there was no one to get help from;
- i was studying history and adopted a rather eurocentric and theological view of history, like god willed the reformation, or the english revolution, etc;
- i was anxious to know the future, both of my country and humanity, so i began studying prophecies of major religions, which led me to revelations and the book of daniel.
