Christianity is just shared mythology (like all other faith-based religions). It was made to allow groups of humans to cooperate in sizes greater than 150, and probably was the sole reason the human race has progressed this far. Religion generates the largest amount of fully mentally mature adults, which effectively keep the world spinning; however, religion is hardly worth worshipping in this day and age. Religion was initially created to provide hope to people that their lives would get better (i.e. going to heaven). Since there was almost no scientific/economic prosperity 2000 years ago, people's lives stayed almost exactly the same over their whole lifetime, so they used religion as essentially a cope. Now, with scientific and economic prosperity, our lives are rapidly changing and we generally have hope our lives will improve without the influence of religion. This is why religion is dead and is likely a pointless cope. Faith based religions will not exist in 1000 years (if society continues to prosper), only ideologies.
