Classic game design
Introduce mechanic
Slowly escalate the difficulty and intensity involved with interacting with that mechanic.
Allow players to figure out what to do with critical thinking

Modern game design
Make it blatantly obvious what you're supposed to do.
Leave no questions in regards on what to do next
Never escalate the difficulty involved in using a mechanic until optional post end game content
Remove anything that requires a learning curve

walk your character into room
- 10 pop ups highlight all the objects you can interact with + they start glowing like they are radioactive
- schizo voice audio kicks in "so this is james room... i think i should check out his drawer first" (immediately the drawer starts glowing at 9 gazillion lumen and 15 arrows appear around it)

meanwhile in old games like gothic:
- walk 10s of the path = killed instantly, gotta figure out how to deal with monsters yourself
- fighting mechanics are never taught in game kek
- no map, if you want map you have to find physical map in the game and buy it:lul: :lul: :lul:
- map is not interactive. No zooming, no markers nothing. Doesnt even show names of most locations. You gotta actually walk around and find landmarks on the map in the game, like in real life LMFAO

- pen and paper are necessary. Nigga I was taking notes cuz in order to crack locks in the game, you gotta do this shit <->>><<<<>> and if you fuck up the tool breaks. So whenever you got down to one tool, you just just reload the game and do it until you got it, while recording the pattern on pen and paper
