F.E.A.R. is a 6 game action-horror, first person shooter game series
what i loved about the first 3 FEARs:
Fear 2 onwards (last 3 games) sadly take heavy inspiration fro CoD, crysis and other contemprary shooters at the time. Game just becomes bullethell slop, and not particularly scary or atmospheric anymore.
They lost the iconic dual pistols in favor of a crysis look pistol with a neon green scifi looking pistol.
At the end of Fear 2, your character literally gets raped by the ghostly femoid following him. Then is instantly 6 months preggers 1 minute later.
Would, and all that, if it wasnt for the fact she alterantes between her hot version and the dead version.
Fear 3 was so shit, i could barely bring myself to complete it.
complete mind numbing bullet hell, u face 40 enemies at a time face to face, eat 200 bullets in the process but move on anyways cuz fast hp regen.
u get only 2 nades on 50 enemies, and the nades do 0 damage anyways. Look, its not possible to even kill the lowest tier enemy with a perfecty cooked nade.WTF is the point.
perfect 3 man nade, 0 of them died. They didnt bring back the dualies either.
the ai is somewhat dumbed down to the point its actually hard to play because the ai sees you at all times, they prefire and shoot u through walls, so if u peek them, they shoot u first even if u have a F1 driver reaction time. Stealth is impossible.
its FEAR only in name. Also the scare factor of the paranormal woman showing up disappears after u find out
TLDR; if you like 2000s shooters, try fear 1, maybe the whole original trilogy, dont bother with the rest
what i loved about the first 3 FEARs:
- visual story telling of bodies, or piles of blood, or broken furniture and glass, or smears across walls and ceilings
- sound design. Very crisp and realistic. Sometimes the anxious silence gets interrupted by yourself accidently kicking a can down the corridoor and u startle urself. The sound of bullet shells singing against the floor was also chefs kiss
- the story is just paranormal enough to keep you on edge and a bit intrigued. This sadly fades with time
- sound is also responsible for tension. Moans, screams, scratches, monsters running around you in the ceiling etc. most of the game you feel like ur being watched, very good and scary atmosphere largely thanks to sound design.
- gunplay is very crisp for an old game. Not clunky whatsoever. Shooting felt like csgo/halo CE. Responsive, accurate, clean. Has the best implemented and most useful lean mechanic ive played in a game. Gameplay feels less of modern fast guns blazing, and more tactical.
- visual feedback of shooting enemies. They stagger, and take visual damage to armor based on where you shoot them. crazy how 20 year old games did this but many modern ones completely skip it.
- the animations are pretty good. Especially a fan of some of the reloads and dual wield pistols.
- guns feel like they actually have weight since enemies react to the impact
- enemy ai. They flank like crazy. Crawl through broken windows. One guy knocks over a bookshelf - a different guy crawls under it to catch you off guard.
- game manages to be scary at some points without needing jumpscares. Tho they still happen. Like the invis guys who are literally hanging invis by a wall like a bug, waiting til you pass by. i mean game takes u through some stereotypical scary locations for paranormal shit as well, like hospitals and bathrooms. Hard to not feel vulnerable in close quarters against something that can phase through walls and floors.
- environment somewhat reacts to explosions. They send objects, bodies, glass shockwaves around. I dont take it for granted.

its your mother. Like, I know she wont hurt me so she doesnt scare me anymore
