The real reason game companies are so obsessed with remakes isn’t to ''update'' old games or make a quick buck. It’s about rewriting history. They know Zoomers and Gen Alphas have a hard time getting into older games, so remakes are made to let them skip the originals completely. The point is to stop younger players from going back and seeing the contrast between how things used to be and today’s sterile, dystopian entertainment scene.
That’s exactly why studios are suddenly allowing Lara Croft to look very close to her classic design in the Atlantis demake. It’s deliberate imitation. By stealing her iconography, dual pistols, backpack, blue top, they can hollow her out while keeping the silhouette. They erase the real Lara by warping her personality, values, and behavior, then insisting this distorted version is the ''authentic'' one because she looks familiar.
It’s a clever strategy. If the character looks familiar but acts out of character, most normies won’t question it. Over time, they just accept that this is how it’s always been. The original version fades away, and the demake becomes the official memory.
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if one day they start pull the original games from digital stores altogether, claiming they’re misogynistic, harmful, or racist. Once demakes replace the memory, the originals become ''problematic artifacts'' that need to disappear completely.
