Science fiction? It is already happening to some extent in our own society. It is well known that the rate of clinical depression had been greatly increasing in recent decades.
Instead of removing the conditions that make people depressed, modern society gives them antidepressant drugs. In effect, antidepressants are a means of modifying an individual's internal state in such a way as to enable him to tolerate social conditions that he would otherwise find intolerable."

It's better to take the drugs than remain depressed, though

The Unabomber was a larper, as are any anarcho-primitivists (or anarchists in general) that don't go live in some hippy commune.

Did he ever live in the wild or in a commune? There are plenty of places in the US that are far away from all civilization. Instead, he chose to stay within civilization because it's comfortable.

He lived in a cabin in the Montana wilderness

I had never even thought of it in those terms. Hah! Jesus Christ.

If they work, sure. But most of the times they either don't work or worm but makes you zombified instead of depressed : not depressed but no willpower, drive, goal, objective or pleasure in anything, and if thate state is superior to all forms of depression it doesn't seem that obvious.

Zoloft did this to me, so I understand what you mean.

Have you looked into SNRIs like Wellbutrin?

No but i completely lost my faith in psychiatry to be honest, maybe in 10 years when they'll understand depression at least.

I had this exact opinion of psychiatry only six months ago. Then I stumbled upon a SNRI that worked somewhat, and then on TMS which completely cured me with no side effects. I'm convinced "brain zapping" is the future of mental healthcare.
