For instance the color green and its shades are most discernible to humans. There would be a clear advantage in distinguishing unripe green fruits from ripe, sugar-loaded fruits (that may have appeared gray to black to them), and edible, tender young leaves from more mature leaves loaded with bitter toxins. Plants evolved to dissuade animals from eating their foliage, but to tempt and reward animals for eating their sweet, juicy fruits and dispersing their seeds. Thus, there was a coevolution between plant coloration and primate color vision. Now that we have evolved past being hunters and gatherers this of course confers no advantage as such but this trait nevertheless remains in us.
Likewise if distinguishing good looks from bad did not serve a purpose our brains would have never evolved to be such as to be able to tell if a person possesses bad or good looks in mere milliseconds.
