All Nintendocels, please hear me out.

I once wanted to buy a Nintendo DS model.

Back then I was unsure of which model to get. I liked the DS Lite, DSi, 2DS.
The 3DS has nothing that interested me. The 3D effect apparently causes headaches anyway.

There is also a 2DS XL iirc and has better specs, I think.

I then put the purchase on ice because money got tight back then.

But things have changed and I would like to experience the good old DS games. Afaik you can play even the standard DS games on the latest DS models.

Which model would you recommend and why?
I will most likely buy a used one.
I have heard that you can get something like an R4 card and basically get all DS games on one SD card.
No idea whether it is still a thing.

Any suggestions and info are appreciated.

Also, I have maybe played two DS games in my whole life as I bought the PSP instead of a DS back when they were released, which I regret tbh, as the DS clearly was the more interesting console.

It still is to me and I would like to experience it. Also, if you have any game recommendations, please feel free to share.

Games I like are of course Minecraft, Harvest Moon, but also Survival Horror and fun racers for sure. Arcade racers I can also enjoy, depending on the game. I have played Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition on the PSP and I liked it.

Other games that I used to play on my PSP were Mercury Meltdown, Exit and Exit 2, for example.
I absolutely despise RPGs... . Sorry brocels. :/

And yes, of course I love GTA, but the old ones. GTA 1, 2 , 3, Vice City and San Andreas.

Also @Stupid Clown since you are a Nintendo conaisseur.

I've had the Nintendo 3DS since around 2009, still works great

Have you owned it? Hah

Also, I can't wait for @Stupid Clown 's opinion.

In the meantime I will do my own research again.

No, but I heard about it and saw gameplay

He absolutely loves it, thinks it's the best thing since milk and honey

Nerd
Yeah, I am a nerd. It is one of the few ways for me to cope, tbh. Being sexless is a pain in the ass.

I wish I had never escortmaxxed. Once you get a taste of sex it is over ... . No amount of fapping can fill that void and the company of a foid does something to you hat no amount of porn can.

Fuck this life, man.

I know from experience that a foid's company is healthy for a man, to an extend and it is also backed by scientific studies.

That type of loneliness kills you.

It is a painful and slow death.

You can't live with them and neither can you without them.

This Yaldabaoth surely is a piece of shit.

How is that greed? I don't want to emulate because it doesn't feel the same.
This. I prefer lying on my couch/bed with the actual console in my hands rather than sitting on my ass in front of the PC (or awkwardly holding my phone).

I've owned most of the consoles you listed so I'll list advantages/disadvantages:
  • Nintendo DS Lite
Pros: Can play GBA games with it
Cons: The folding mechanism deteriorates quickly - be very careful when opening/closing it. Same with the L/R buttons. Power "button" is also frail.
  • Nintendo DSi
Pros: Probably the best in this list for playing DS games. Fits nicely in your hands, folding mechanism is robust, the power button is an actual button.
Cons: You can't play GBA games with it
  • Nintendo DSi XL
Pros: Bigger screen size compared to DSi if you prefer that (I personally don't)
Cons: It's heavier and the folding mechanism has once again issues, just like the DS Lite. Might be awkward to hold depending on the size of your hands.
  • 3DS consoles
Buy only if you want to play 3DS games as well. Otherwise they are just gonna be more expensive and the DS games are gonna be awkward to play (imo) because of the "joystick".

Thanks man. That is a very thorough review, for .is standards.
I did not know about the quality issue of these consoles. Looks like even back then Nintendo sucked.
At least joy cons can be replaced but it would not be so easy with a DS Lite DSi XL to replace / repair.

Can I play standard DS games in a 2DS / 3DS though?

Yeah, fuck this cope. They are asking way too much for used ones. At least here in Germany.
LoL

Sad, really.

if you’re just chasing the classic, i’d say go for the DSi. it feels sturdier in the hands than the lite, has a brighter screen, and the power button isn’t flimsy like the older models. downside is no GBA slot, but if you’re mainly in it for DS games, that’s not a dealbreaker ig

Over for Nintendocels

Gaming copes are dead

Niiiiiiice. Just found a DSi in mint condition for 200€. Jfl

That is steep, for a used one.
EUR 200 is definitely too much. Maybe for a Gameboy Advance (SP) or Gameboy Color (they're considered ancient at this point), but not a DSi :feelskek:

Try kleinanzeigen.de perhaps?

Not sure, I only owned a DS and wii.

just download an emulator you're wasting your money if otherwise DS roms don't take up hardly any space lol

I did try exactly this. I'd understand if it was sealed, but not for a used one in allegedly mint condition.

I am trying to relive my youth as coping is all I have.

Good console boyo

Probably need to look a bit more. Germany is huge, there's bound to be one who offers a DSi in reasonably good condition for a reasonable price.

There are also other platforms that do the same as kleinanzeigen, maybe check them out, too

Should I go for the DSi or New 2DS XL?

Found some new 2ds XL for around 150€ ... . Used of course. The photos are whack, so I cannot tell how good / bad the condition is.

Both are fine. However the biggest drawback of the 2DS/3DS models is that DS games are awkward to play on them, as you have to use the knob (which is imprecise for the 4/8-directional movement patterns the old games had) or the d-pad in an awkward position (not on the same level as the other buttons).

If you want to play 3DS games at some point you should get the 2DS, if not, just go for the DSi.

Dont be retarded.

Get one of the emulation devices AYN thor

Or the anbernic ds which is upcoming, or even the magicx zero 40

Yeah, no. Way to expensive and it is just Emulation.

I might as well emulate it on my phone.

brokefag

magicx zero is only $80 and it comes with SD with every DS game ever

DS Lite and a New 3DS XL.

You get the best of both worlds. You get to play DS games and GBA games on the DS Lite, and then you are able to play DS games and 3DS games on your 3DS XL, along with the ability to have digitally downloadable games.

So far most have voted for the New 3DS XL.

Get a new 3ds if you're able to. The 3d tracking makes it worth it.

My opinion is, the new 3ds is the best option, after that nds lite and dsi
