Title. Some of you already know my tastes. But I want to hear a variety.

Before I do, answer me one question: do you like death metal or black metal?

I'm not giving recs without knowing, because I know most people despise that shit.

My fav song of all time

I should listen to this band, had it on my list for a while
Their lyrics are truecel tier. "A plague of lighthouse keepers" has the most truecel lyrics i've ever heard
Still waiting for my saviour,
storms tear me limb from limb;
my fingers feel like seaweed...
I'm so far out I'm too far in.

Alrighty then, I'll give a few recommendations, and I forgot to ask if you prefer full-length albums or just individual songs, so I'll give some of each, links below:

Death Metal:
Sojourn by Meadows End is a good symphonic death metal album and I absolutely love the violin solo in the song 'Heathen's Embrace'.

As Humanity Fades by Morta Skuld is a good old-school style death metal record. My personal favorite song is probably Humanity's Lost.

Black Metal:
Sworn to Paganism by Skogmark is an excellent atmospheric black metal album. I wasn't able to find the full album on youtube, though youtube does have many of their individual songs, but it seems the full album is up on spotify if you have that. I'll include the spotify link with all the other links below.

The Voice of Steel by Nokturnal Mortum is an excellent piece of folkish black metal. Valkyrie is a particularly strong song on this album. I do have to warn you, however, that Nokturnal Mortum are a NSBM (National Socialist Black Metal) band, though they've cut the Nazi themes and lyrics from their music, it seems, starting with this album.

If that's too much of a put-off, however, I can also recommend as an alternative to Nokturnal Mortum the album The World of Retribution by Morodh, an excellent piece of DSBM (depressive sui*** black metal), with the song Fatality as the highlight of the album.

Truecels understand

as well:
However this one is about a soldier who got his limbs blown off by a landmine and can't see, speak hear, or move. It was inspired by "Johnny got his gun", a book/movie.
Unforgiven is about Hetfield's life story.

This is also kind of trucel-ish but about traveling on the road to play music

This is a megadeth song with this kind of lyrics. But it was written about the passing of Cliff Burton. Metallica also wrote a song about it, To Live is To Die, but it has no lyrics.

Phil Anelsmo wrote this and he might be understandable. He had a lot of drug issues and got molested as a kid. He's pretty funny.View attachment b31707ab49022febba25ec9a40309b49.webp

That's a lot of recs. Thanks. Listened to it briefly and liked it, I'll save and listen to all of them. I have minimal experience with death metal but I liked it and wanted to listen to more. Listened to Burzum and Cannibal Corpse

I wasn't sure of your experience with the genres, so I tried to give some recs that I thought weren't as well known. Glad you like what you've briefly heard so far.

I still listen to Burzum, myself, but not so much with Cannibal Corpse anymore.

Yeah, obscure recs are cool. Not something I could just find by googling "death metal bands'

If you like metal this might be faggy but I was listening to Saosin's Translating the Name earlier today. Good post-hardcore/emo from before the genre became derivative.

Edit: Here's some obscure shoegaze/black metal that's good. Eribo - I Collect the Stars by Lantlos.
