Yes, that's exactly it. I enjoy escapist media because it allows me to forget about myself, and more specifically my failings. The last thing I want is for these supposed copes to do the opposite. It just gets worse as I get older. I used to be able to tolerate stuff that will send me into an immediate depression now.

Yeah, I try to tbh. Usually I avoid anything with a romance tag. Not that romance is absolutely guaranteed to bother me, but it's rarely handled in any manner which I can remotely relate to, so it's highly likely that it will.
