Why did GTA 5 nerf the cars so badly?

They have the worst traction possible: they spin out so easily and you can barely drift in them, the absolute worst of both worlds and they are a nightmare to drive in the rain or off-road. How can a game with Grand Theft Auto in its name have such shitty driving mechanics?

They're way too arcadey. GTA IV's realistic driving definitely would've been incompatible with a map like GTA V so it's understandable that they had to make driving smoother but they went way too far in the other direction. 90% of cars can traverse mountains like it's nothing, it really takes a lot of fun out of your vehicle choice when most of them handle the same.

Legit the only fun I get from driving in GTA V is weaving in and out of traffic with a supercar, the rest of it feels like a chore. I will never not have fun with GTA IV's driving

GTA 4 driving mechanics were great. It's hard to believe that game came out almost 20 years ago.
