I recently played Mafia: The old country and i was hooked from the start, i played the whole game in one sitting for about 13 hours.
This is my first ever videogame review so if you have feedback lmk please
*This post may have spoilers to the main story and it isnt very blackpilled*
Main story:
The story takes place in italy and is a prologue to the mafia trilogy. It follows Enzo who as a kid was sold to a sulfur mine, you follow him progressing through a mafia family from living in a pig pen to being the Don's right hand. It had a solid romance story with the Don's daughter Isabella and its a ''forbidden romance'' theme. There are solid side-characters who all have interesting personality quirks and exciting voicelines. Going through the story Enzo realizes this life isnt for him, and then everything takes a twist.
Map:
The map is beatiful, it isnt very explorable but it fits the story perfectly. There is a free ride gamemode where you can take a break from the story and just drive around and get the collectibles. I didnt use the free ride gamemode since imo its boring as hell but i can see it being fun for someone who would want to 100% the game.
Mobility:
The game offers 2 ways of mobility driving cars or riding horses.
The horses in the game are mid at best but luckily we arent forced to use them for very much of the story. On the other hand we have cars and they were very well executed i personally enjoyed steering them and they were fast enough so it didnt take 100 years to get to locations.
Navigating:
I found it difficult to navigate through the map sometimes especially in the later parts of the game, i think it was made on purpose since there isnt a minimap and the roads are all connected so in the end it wasnt that bad tbh.
Combat:
The combat in the game is very well done. I enjoyed the knife fighting which was really fun actually, it was forced into the game in an annoying way though where you usually fall and ''drop'' your gun so then you have to fight some big brute with your knife instead. The stealth was well made but there isnt anything special about it.
Now to the exciting part about combat Guns. The guns in the game are good and well balanced, you dont carry alot of ammo so its more strategy instead of going in guns blazing BUT you can loot the people you kill to get ammo and bandages.
My overall rating of the game is a solid 8/10.
This was all i had to say right now but if i remember something else i want to add ill be sure to update!
Thanks for reading my review.
