If you're being realistic—and I'm basically just parroting what turbocuckcel said—the Earth was never meant to sustain an infinitely-growing amount of people. The human population has never been particularly large throughout history, but with globalism and welfare and the likes of it all, it grew by a ton. Reality eventually struck, though, and people realized you can only sustain so many people at once, and now the population is just correcting.
