That is what I am doing.

The Steam client on Linux seems to be buggy and all games I try to run max out my CPU.

Apparently if I put it on the beta client it will work.

Wish me luck...

lol it's not really Linux's fault though it's something related to Steam.

See, this is the thing isn't it really. So many issues on Linux aren't really Linux as such - they're compatibility-related.

For example this is why I always say that if you use Linux (or Mac) then you need to think more about what hardware is compatible with it before you buy it, ideally.

Probably yes, well anyways I enjoy having full control over my computer + some programmercel here should make an Incel themed distro just to piss off the trannies

Hm, nah I gave up.

I swear I've had it working just fine on here before so I assume an update to Steam broke it.

Those Linux compatibility layers on Steam are pretty rough ride at the best of times in my experience. Usually they do at least work though.

Why not use windows?

Yeah, like I'm gonna purchase hardware specifically to run Linux ... . No, I purchase whatever is at a good price.

It's only down to whether a hardware manufacturer made drivers for Linux. Or someone else did.

It's like this for every OS it's just that Windows has more drivers for it.

Why not use windows?

I did used to really like 7 and 8.1. But I really don't want to go near 11.

Yeah, eleven is really gay as fuck. And I thought ten was bad ... .

Linux sucks for gaming

Linux sucks for gaming

I mean, I've had some really good fun with Linux gaming over the years.

This was a long while ago but we used to play fun FPS games and MMORPGs and all sorts. FPS multiplayer over LAN, lots of stuff.

So it can be done. I think again the biggest issue is that so many games are made for Windows.

Yeah I didn't like 10 much at all and then 11 came along and it's like it took all the worst stuff about 10 and took it way further.

can't wait to reinstall my nvidia drivers for umpteenth time

this is why i still feel like the Steam Deck is a scam

it's presented in a very rosy fashion, but the CPU will struggle on some games because of the emulation, despite the fancy hardware stats

I did make some interesting progress.

I stuck the game in software rendering and turned off the overlay thing and it at least ran and I think hogs LESS cpu.

The joke is the game actually runs great but I think that some kind of background process is out of control and hogging the CPU.

Most likely it's part of the compatibility layer because it even did it on a little indie game I played (that I'm pretty sure uses a totally different engine).

So I'll try a couple of Linux native games on Steam and see if all is fine. If so then I guess it's definitely that comparability thing and I just have to work out how to make it behave. Some component of it probably needs disabling or something like that.

Try Proton GE

Try Proton GE

Hm. I feel like I'd rather not use unofficial stuff unless I have no choice.

If it does turn out to be Proton maybe I can use a parameter or older version or something.

:feelswhere:Curious about the solution:feelswhere:

Yeah me too lol

OpenTTD runs fine. So I guess it must be Proton.

I don't think it's a runaway process. I think it thinks it's doing something useful, lol

Maybe a process that's just not behaving as it should, even if it's technically performing some kind of function.

These are the kinds of incredible graphics you can experience when you use software rendering on CS 1.6 (I found these pictures online but it looked similar when I used it!)

Maybe the current version of steam is bugging out your pc, so just wait for an update. Trying all proton versions fixes the problem 99% of time in my case with steam games, anyway did you fix it already ?

Hm maybe I could try more versions.

And no not just yet especially as I also had another issue lol

I'm glad I got to play it a bit though even if it looked like it was running on my Sega Saturn!

Condition Zero sucks though.

Condition Zero sucks though.

:cryfeels:

To be honest I mainly play it because for someone who mainly plays offline like me it's basically just 1.6 with bots and more maps :feelsLightsaber:

Playing with bots is based

I only ever got to play TFC with bots

I find it a nice way to just chill and enjoy playing the game. No drama that can come from pvp and no hassle from choosing servers and downloading assets and whatever else!

TFC... I don't think I ever installed bots for that. Was it good?

Day of Defeat I played a lot especially with bots.

The bots were dumb but it was still fun because of all the classes and equipment.

I also played Firearms with bots but no DoD in spite of its popularity.

It's running great now. XD

I pulled out the graphics card I bought so the PC went back to onboard graphics and it runs like a dream.

I don't think this (retro) card is well supported by Linux.

Bro how do you even enjoy playing against bots????????? Seems pretty boring. Just CS2 maxx.

a) I don't like PvP

b) I don't like CS2

XD

I find CS2 really garish and cringe and the charms are annoying.

Just use winblows why are you wasting time with loonix

I just find modern Windows really, really bossy. TPM requirements, forced online accounts, forced updates, etc etc etc.

Bit much? Maybe?

If you want to you can still join Condition Zero PvP by searching up for servers online. There are still kids in Asian countries with tetra potato computers who play old CS games

Also one thing weird about the Windows thing is... I actually don't hate Vista or 8.1. I admit 8 wasn't the best the use.

I think different people just have different criteria.

10 seemed more tolerable than 11 but I still don't like it much.

I just... kind of prefer bots. It's more chill. No tryhards or toxicity, etc.

You could put windows 10 ltsc in the vm software, vert manager? I don't remember. That's what I will probably do eventually. You would loose like 10% performance. I like the idea of restricting internet access to to the vm so I can just use windows for all the little things that linux wont do, offline. I have a love hate relationship with linux. lol
