Because Larson isn't the kind of person who listens to what judges have to say, it really isn't a surprise that the judge doesn't think he should be allowed to represent himself. Judge Thurston is the no-nonsense type, I see. Peter M. Jones was reappointed as Nathan Larson's attorney.

Well, the femoid that Larson allegedly kidnapped was living in Fresno, California, so the case fell under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California (E.D. Cal.) The U.S. District Court for E.D. Cal. has only six authorized federal judgeships: four in Sacramento, two in Fresno. So Larson's case was going to be handled by either Judge Jennifer L. Thurston or Judge Dale A. Drozd (who was actually Larson's judge before Thurston was appointed to the bench in Dec 2021).

I would say there are only a handful of marginally better ones who have managed to stay in their positions, and who are still applying their decision making ability in conjunction with legal precedent properly.
