Steam is way too heavy for many games

For example on my Linux PC I have the game Battle For Wesnoth installed normally and I think on Steam too.

It's a fairly basic game on a technical level but has strategic depth and is atmospheric I think!

Anywho if I try to play it via the normal installed package, it loads in about 3 seconds.

If I tried to play it on Steam it would go like this:

Huge Steam update -> Steam login requiring authenticor -> whole Steam client loads -> possibly waiting a long time for Linux runtimes to be set up -> game eventually loads.

And that's assuming it goes smoothly! Which it often doesn't.

It uses lot of ram too. I wish there was an option for a "light" steam ui.

It sounds like muh Linux is really paying dividends, making your whole experience better.

Yeah for sure.

It really depends what you personally want from a computer.

I just want an OS that leaves me alone and let's me enjoy a nice simple desktop experience. And Linux is amazing for that. And of course an OS that I don't have to feel like I'm fighting with.

I'm really pretty happy just playing a few simple games plus Roblox on Mac and stuff. I have the Mac wired up to the same monitor and peripherals.

Most games these days are pretty bad you must admit so it's not like there are amazing AAAs coming out all the time that I feel like I'm missing out on.

It's not even Linux causing the issues, it's steam being a bloated piece of chromium shit is what's causing his problems.

Just pirate and be happy that it launches in 2 seconds

Yeah most of these issues are with Steam itself.

Some are "Linux" in that... the runtimes are needed to play Windows games on Linux. It's not like it needs them to play native games I wouldn't think!

That being said I have no idea why they take so long to set up.
