I always see people think of speedrunners as “pro gamers” and speedrunning in general as high level.
To me, what constitutes high level plays is how well you’re able to manage under stressful situations (hence multiplayer games, in my opinion, are ALWAYS good measurements) and just how fast you can improvise and come up with successful contingency plans on the go. Speedrunning is the complete opposite, because in most cases, almost everything you do as a speedrunner is scripted, already planned and practiced.
I’ve delved into speedrunning myself thanks to speedrun related trophies/achievements (particularly with Resident Evil), and in my experience, they require very little “skill” especially if you’re not even the one coming up with the routes yourself, and you’re just watching someone else do them for you.
Not to mention that they usually completely ruin the fun for me. I’m the type of player that likes to take things very slow, even on second/clean up playthroughs, so when there’s a deliberate incentive for me to rush through everything (e.g., trophies), I tend to feel underwhelmed and bored.
