I have been doing some reading on the history of the Americas and it is interesting to see that Spanish people were in North America before the English were. The west of the current USA being a Spanish colony and some of the oldest churches in USA being Catholic.
I also read that the oldest ethnicity present in USA besides the natives is the mix between Spanish and native American. The Spanish would breed with the natives whereas the English usually bred with other English.

Although I don't know if the ancestors of today's American Hispanics were based in that region. I assume they came up from Mexico.

Some other information I found out was that there was Irish emigration to Puerto Rico with Irish names still present there. This was because some Irish nobility had moved to Spain in the 1600's after the English conquest of Ireland. One of the colonial leaders of West Florida was an Irish-Spaniard.

There are many children of European immigrants in America. Argentina, Uruguay, and I think part of Brazil had a lot of Italian immigration during the first half of the 20th century.

The truth is that there are clear ethnocultural differences between the countries of Mesoamerica and SouthAmerica, beyond sharing a language and a common history.
