For those who haven't been following the recent simp trends, the new hottest thing is simping to girls hiding behind anime avatars while they play games, "vtubers"/virtualyoutuber is what they call them. Sometimes they're in big groups and are paid by a company, "Hololive" being an example.

However, one thing that happened recently was that there was a virtual youtuber who was doxxed and was found out that she had a boyfriend.
This negatively affected her view count and donations, and was let go by the company. While we've seen this happen before with twitch thots, it's always something that people have gotten over, and has never resulted in a job loss.

I believe that the west will slowly take on the Japanese Idol mentality, that if an idol has a boyfriend, then she isn't the idol for the fans.
A well known example was a idol from the group "AKB48" who was caught with a boyfriend and had to shave her head an apologize on camera.

Support the trend, but don't care. Idolizing 2d/virtual characters is a mental illness anyways. The lengths lonely men will go to have a crumb of female attention are immeasurable. And also the fact that they fap to her presumable innocence and loyalty to random people alone speaks a lot. Men have perverted perception of modern women, building those imaginary ideal females in their heads and expecting them to play according to their fantasies.

And no imo the west isn't going to adopt this mind set, it's the other way around, Japan will either westernize or die out and those lonely men will be left out to cope on their own.
