Tribal mentality is natural social/biological mechanism, thanks to which one can recognise a kin or a threat in someone.
In some civilisations such mentality is stronger (e.g. South American Indians or Jews) and in case of white people, where individualism is more prevalent, tribal thinking is weaker.
A person perceives members of inner group/own tribe in a more favourable light, as more unique, beautiful, polite, etc. and those from out-group as more homogenous and everything about them seems to be worse.
The hypocrisy in that way thinking shows when a person A from an in-group and another (B) from an out-group do the exact same thing (idk, for example carve a bird in wood or something). Both of them hold their pieces in hand, waiting to have their work judged.

The judge is more likely to compliment co-tribesman work and criticise persons B sculpture.
