Consider prehistoric tribal warfare: women who genuinely valued the group and were unwilling to abandon their husbands or children tended to perish alongside them in intertribal conflicts. Conversely, those who were willing to betray their “tribe” or “community” were more likely to survive. Thus, more treacherous and ungrateful women, over thousands of human conflicts, would have been selected for exhibiting little to no loyalty.
