So say you want the Sumy province in Ukraine/Kursk province in Russia to have 50,000 troops on that frontline all the time. Ok then you need 150,000 soldiers in the divisions associated with that. Thing is for the wars to come Russia is going to need a huge army anyway. How do you build a huge army? In the war you build the army. In some ways its pointless to build a huge army before the war, because you don't know what you are going to need. You find out what you need in actual combat. And you wouldn't get the political support to build a gigantic army if you aren't in a big war. Plus if everybody sees you building up that army, they are going to start preparing and building their own armies anyway.


In the war you also get a battle hardened army. I think any European army would have big problems against either Russia or Ukraine armies now, because Russia and Ukraine are battle hardened. Like not just the troops but the military organization too. You find out problems by fighting a hard war.
