I've been emulating PSP games for years now, and I'll show my fellow mobile users how to do it.

Step 1: install the emulator

Install this emulator (PPSSPP): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ppsspp.ppsspp

This is the most popular and trusted PSP emulator, it has customizable controls, settings, simple UI, and easy navigation.

Step 2: set the memory stick

Go to your 'files' app, and create a new folder in the internal storage, name it "PSP", then open PPSSPP and select the "create or choose a PSP folder" then navigate and select the folder created.

The emulator will designate all it's files into this folder, recheck the folder and you will find other folders inside, it should have these (no specific order):
>PLUGINS
>SYSTEM
>SAVEDATA
>GAME
>PPSSPP_STATE
>TEXTURES
>CHEATS

Step 3: download PSP ISOs

I recommend this website: https://www.emulatorgames.net/roms/playstation-portable/

Select any game you want, then install the file, it will come in the form of .zip

Step 4: prepare the file

The zip files need to be extracted in order to get the actual ISO, if your phone has the option to extract then use it, if it doesn't, then install ZArchiver.

After you've extracted the ISO file, delete the zip file, then move the ISO to the 'GAME' folder inside the 'PSP' folder mentioned earlier.

Step 5: setup and gameplay

When you open PPSSPP again, the games may not show up, there will be a button called "browse", click that then navigate back to the 'PSP' folder, only select the 'PSP' folder itself and not the folders within it as it might interfere with the emulators function.

That's all there is to it, good luck:feelsYall:

Thanks. Maybe one day, when I get a better phone.
Mine can just handle PS1 emulation well and only at native settings.
But I prefer it that way because I like the original experience, tbh. I always feel like a kid again.

My pleasure :feelsYall:, if you ever do, I recommend you play manhunt 2, I can also give a guide on how to install plugins, since manhunt 2 is censored (executions) you'd need to install a plugin to remove it.

With a more powerful phone you can also explore PS2 emulation, but I haven't yet tried that.

Do you get better performance on ppsspp than on crappy nethersx2? since i have tried to emulate few games on my phone and they were running horribly bad. I had no other choice than to get very mediocre phone without snapdragon, mine has Mali-G57 :feelscry:

G57 can even start a ps2 game? My g68 isnt good enough for most psp games

It can start but i only get 35-40fps in most wanted at 1x resolution it's unplayable as game runs at 60% speed so even music and car sound is completely crippled. I guess i will stick to just emulating much older consoles. Or maybe ppsspp will be less demanding.

Psp is easier than ps2 so psp should run great, must be my cpu

Most psp was sub 30

I have a PowerVR GE8320. No idea how good or bad this is.

I even had to research what GPU I have.
Processor is a HelioTek G37. 4GB of RAM.

I play Minecraft PE on lowest settings just fine, until I start building more farms etc. . Then it starts lagging.

PPSSPP and AetherSX2 are different platforms, PPSSPP is for PSP (playstation portable) emulation, while AetherSX2 emulates for PS2.

In general, PSP games are much easier to run due to simpler architecture and lower resolution, PPSSPP is also very optimized, from what I know AestherSX2 was removed from the play store in 2022 and hasn't gotten any updates, it's also much more demanding.

Also, your GPU is slightly better than mine (Adreno 610) and I'm able to run more intensive games (Manhunt 2, Silent Hill: SM) on PPSSPP, just use the OpenGL backend and you'll be good.

Last thing, PSP and PS2 are different platforms and have different games, although some games they share (GTA mostly) still have downgrades on the PSP versions to enhance performance, because PSP is weaker than PS2.

If you ever do install PPSSPP, use the OpenGL backend, you can play at 3x resolution at an average of 30fps on most games, that's assuming our GPUs are nearly equivalent in strength

i first played the goat JRPG Trails in the Sky on a PSP emulator

That's pretty impressive gonna check that emulator for sure as i know it's very solid when i used it on pc

I did some testing, you should also be able to use Vulkan at 3x resolution with the same fps, you might be able to push to 4x but I don't recommend it since the frames might drop randomly.

Just use OpenGL when you're playing a game that's very choppy.
