Religious, sexually confused young men, gay or not, are attracted to Catholic celibacy because it "resolves" their issues, while also serving God.
Until recently, such young men were apt to attend a seminary for several years, beginning in their early teens. An environment where they matured physically, but not emotionally, and certainly not sexually. A place where their predilections were made flesh, and far worse, through their experiences with upper classmen and "teachers", and which gave them, upon their "matriculation" as young adults, the requisite combination of inclination, ignorance and self-righteousness to become predator priests.
