There is legitimacy to this phenomenon even if reddit got to the term. I'd argue it's more of a people problem than just bots, but that's a topic for another day.

Wdym? I don't see people making sarcastic gestures irl. I'm trying to say that sarcasm is often detected by the content of the statement rather than gestures, tone of voice, etc. regardless of if it's on the internet or in real life (at least in my experience).
from my experience people change their tone and pronounciation when they are being sarcastic usually
