could this be applied to lookism

in the film philadelphia it states aids is protected under law as a handicap not just because of the physical limitations it imposes but the prejudices surrounding aids exacts a social death which precedes the actual physical one

why could this not be used for lookism whereby someone is protected under law from being mistreated or fired by employers by the same law as the social death of lookism produces the prejudices envoked by aids at nearly the same level, ostracisation, shunning social death etc
