The entire Nordic region might as well be rural the way I see it. Stockholm is a hick town compared to other capital cities around the world.

Japan is very mountainous, so people congregate in the few places where the land is hospitable.

Rural means different things in different places tbh. in asia cities have low crime and are clean. in america and europe capitals are places of migrants and crime and povery

The entire Nordic region might as well be rural the way I see it. Stockholm is a hick town compared to other capital cities around the world.

Interesting point-of-view. With the pedestal Scandinavia is put on, I don't think any outsider would put it like this, your remark about Stockholm for example is something I'd expect to hear hre about Bratislava, nobody would dare say that about a Nordic capital.

Really makes me wonder about the threads about inceldom in the Nordics you've mentioned a couple of times.

There are few things more absurd than the immense soft power Nordic countries hold. Unlike countries like the the US or Japan it is not because of cultural exports, it comes purely from the elaborate fantasies about Nordic countries people build up in their heads. Those fantasies would be broken instantly if people could do as little as looking up what Nordic countries and people actually look like, but that never happens. These fantasies serve as an immense and free boon for Nordic countries though of course, so neither the governments or people here want to correct these false perceptions of what life is like here.

I have a lot to say about it. The problem is that it's embarrassing. It doesn't get much more irrelevant than Nordic countries on the world stage, at least when we're talking about Western Global North countries. The soft power here is entirely built on outsiders assumptions, and those assumptions do not correspond with reality. Hard power is also non-existent, or at least significantly less than what it could be, and it will surely remain that way.

when i was growing up they kept telling us about japan having massive overpopulation and that they even had to built artifical islands out of dogshit and trash to house more people. Now they say that there are 1000s of empty villages in japan, entire swaths of land devoid of human life suddenly. So is the overpopulation only in the cities? idk
