My parents would always be very excitable and argue with each other, so I learned to avoid eye contact because that would arouse and excite them too much and they would become unpredictable. As a result I always avoided eye contact as a child. Now I larp making eye contact, but truthfully averting eyes helps you to process emotions better. Normies never avoid eye contact because they have no empathy and big egos, so they rarely process emotions if it's not self-serving
