If inmates were paid a living wage and even a family wage, that would reduce prison suicide which is the leading cause of death among inmates. The most obvious way this would help is they would be able to buy more food and things. They may even give some food to others who are unemployed. This money can also be used to hire a prostitute, which might be possible since inmates are allowed to have conjugal visits. Lastly, maybe if reform occurs perhaps they can hire a commercial surrogate with the money they've earned. Parents are less likely to commit suicide according to Emile Durkheim, so this would reduce prison suicide.
Ironically, I think I agree with the feminist "equal pay for equal work" idea. Feminists claim women are paid less than men for the same work, yet this is obviously not true since prisoners, most of whom are men, are paid pennies daily. Men are paid less than women.
If we should have universal basic income, it should be universal. Even inmates should receive UBI.
And yeah prison should be co-ed so those foids can marry and prostitute themselves to the male inmates and maybe even to the guards.
