Thread title. I'm trying to set up a plot point for my book. Its commonly assumed that a very realistic sexbot (indistinguishable from a woman in looks or ability) would cost an obscene amount of money. The question is, what would the average person here pay for one if it did exist? There are also other alternatives, like obvious stylized versions (think anime or maybe even something like Emmy the Robot as an example), that would be cheaper by virtue of trying to not look as real as possible. Financing is available, like a car, and after a certain period of time you can trade it in for credit for a newer model. Personality and memories will transfer over to the next machine. Purchase comes with a warranty and dedicated support. The total cost of the setup includes the bot plus the local hardware needed to run a model locally. Subscriptions are available for more advanced AIs, ands it possible to run custom firmware and models on the bots (open source architecture).
Another aspect that I was thinking of is perhaps offering a very expensive top of the line model and ancillary services in exchange for working in a remote or dangerous place (remote tundra/arctic mines and oil rigs) for a few years. If you would be interested in this, assume you would need to sign a 5 year or longer contract for such a thing. Assume the bot is like $250k or something if paid with cash in this case. Expand on this if you choose this path.
