Basics of being an owner op. Get up drive your ass off sleep repeat.
Like to start my day at 2am finishing around 3pm.
get 11 hours day to drive 14 hours on duty 10 hours off 70 hours total in 8 days.
At the end of the day usually too tired to think about or do anything but sleep.
Did 3,261 miles last week, starting in new england to wisconsin then down to texas were im currently waiting for repairs.
Been a company driver my whole career bought my truck oct 30th. Since then its been in the shop twice, covered under 30 day warranty thankfully.
Owning the truck has been stressful as hell but so far i enjoy it. Different feeling in driving and waking up in something thats mine.
When I decided to go owner operator my parents were a little disappointed. Still holding out hope for wife house etc.
Told my dad Im 33 and haven't even been on a date yet, that ship has not only sailed, its sailed the seven seas been retired and sold for scrap.
He agreed and helped me buy the truck so he owns half of it.
Dream is to start with this one truck and grow it to a small fleet of maybe 5 or 6 by the time im 40.

Good thread bro ngl. I saw a youtube video about whether it is worth it to get a CDL recently... sounds like it's hard out there these days for drivers.

tbh trucks look comfy, everything you need close to you all the time.

Good for you, I like your goal of owning a fleet. Don’t trucks usually have like a 500,000 mile warranty? 30days seems like nothing?

Also you should watch Jay Masters on YouTube if you don’t already. He’s a trucker and power lifter.

I do like scanias wish they would try to introduce it over here.
Last coe we had was the argosy. Still available I think by special order.
Kw has a new version of the k100 they sell in Australia would like one of those too.
Coe just not popular here don’t know why
Volvo might have a better shot at making it though. Already a popular brand here.
This is what we get

Called twice today about my truck. Different answer each time about whats going on.
Stuck another night at least.
Much better last time truck was in shop at least I was home didn’t have to rely on door dash and pay for a hotel.

Good incel job away from the zombie public.

Not quite.
All the idiots spawn in at around 6am. Never in waves either usually all at once. They start disappearing at around 9pm empty highways around 1am

Trucks done finally.
Now just got to wait for the warranty to pay the bill.
Hopefully this is it for a while 30 day guarantee is up at midnight, most everything now is on me.

I've always thought about being a truck driver. I met up with a guy who's job actually was going from houston and austin and when he'd go to austin we'd hang out at like 6 AM and I'd buy cigarettes from him.

I feel like going into a trucker stop at 3 AM is pretty comfy. Or it's pretty weird. Idk.

Dont think its weird.
All sorts of people in and out of the truck stops not so much since covid though.

Got all the way over there and they haven’t done a fucking thing on the truck.
last time it was completely fixed then paid for now they want approvals for everything

Wait was worth it.
30 day guarantee on the truck really saved my ass.
New wiper switch, def sensor, oil pan seal and torque rod.

Thank you driver!

See you on the flip flop.

Keep the rubber side down.

Don't stop for the barricades!
....
Beware of the lot lizards!

how much money you make, i heard you can make like 200k a year?

how much money you make, i heard you can make like 200k a year?
Depends on job/company
As an o/o I get 1.06 company drivers get about half that.
Most starter companies pay less than .40 cents per mile to new drivers.
For me just starting as an o/o I picked a company that offered a few perks in exchange for a lower revenue.
Most o/o’s get a percentage of the line haul ranging from 65%-80% in stead of per mile.
Flatbed pays the best but is most effected by economic turmoil.
Temperature control would be next best and then dry van.
The highest would tanker/hazmat especially the oil fields but I don’t really include those because they require additional licenses and I have no interest in hazmat or tanker.
Waiting to get dispatched outta here.
Bobtailed up from Laredo on Friday to blackwall that shop then sent me over to Dallas.
No breakdown pay for me need to get this thing rolling.

didn’t even get 300 miles before triggering a check engine light again.
Hopefully I didn’t get a lemon, just par for the course if I did though. Life just seems to love to always serve me the shit sandwich special.

In an out of places quick. Longest I ever have to stay in one place is 10 hours for my daily break.
got to drive about 4 hours non stop today to get to Topeka on time for my drop.

Blessed thread tbh. I always thought that truck driving seemed like a comfy job. I think this is the first time here I've seen a truckdrivercel.

Always a joy waking up to the illegally parked trucks. Not too bad this morning should clear the Pete next to me no problem.

That's nice. Congratulations.
Hope you'll get your fleet soon.

Who knows maybe you'll get laid in that truck too.

Always thought about being a truck driver, never did it though
It’s a great job I think.
Sure it’s exhausting and stressful but I’d take this over going back into an office or warehouse.
Get tired of seeing the same thing everyday, working with the same people and hearing about their life story or what their doing/did on the weekend.
Owning the truck is more of a commitment to the lifestyle of living on the road.
If I’m able to start adding trucks don’t know if I’d be able to come off road completely and just dispatch from home or not might drive me a little crazy.
I’ll have to see the few times I’ve neeted I always ran out of money too quickly, might be different with a steady flow coming in.

Keeping those wheels rolling. Been busy since leaving Dallas.

@LastGerman would this be your dream job?

Absolute brag thread. There is no point to make such a thread in the first place. Also:

I always liked the idea of being a truck driver, but where i'm from the trucks are tiny in comparison.

Once again, there is no point to make such an elaborated thread and then when someone is calling you out of humblebragging (because this thread is just another humblebrag thread), he resorted to:

"Living on the roads of America in a 76in box is really nothing brag worthy."

Then, why did he make this thread in the first place...?

There is no point to make such a thread in the first place. It is also weird that he basically joined a couple of days ago and yet he only talks about driving? People claim, I make up my persona, yet here is somebody who joined a couple of days ago and made an elaborated thread about driving. I call bullshit.

Just sharing my experiences of being an incel on the road.
I stand by it not being a brag living by yourself on the road instead of living with your parents as the alternative is nothing brag worthy.
If someone had told me at 18 that I’d be a 33 year old virgin still living with his parents I’d say you were insane yet here I am.
I’ve worked in retail and in warehouses and it drives me nuts working with others for long periods of time.
Especially when the reward after is to go back to the room you’ve had since you were a teenager to play video games until I can no longer stay awake.
Living on the road is enjoyable enough for me to keep doing it, don’t really have much time to worry about coping but I’d much rather have a wife kids and a house.

you’re main issue lastgerman is the driving part and not the fact that I live in a 76in box so just pretend the truck travels around by magic and ignore the part you don’t like

You know mate - of all the greycels on here I like you the most. If anyone gives you shit for being a greycel I officially "vouch" for you. It's nice to have other people on here who work for a living. Most of the guys on here are NEET's.

I seriously considered becoming a HGV driver when I was 22-24. I was working in distribution on and off for a few years and the drivers got to leave the shit hole depot every day and get away from management and even the agency drivers earned more ££££ than I did. I like my current job but If I loose it I may pay the £5000 to get my license and start driving.

Very sensible going half in with your father - look at the interest rates at the moment. If he has savings he can get much better return in the trucking business with you than he can in a savings account.

I know a guy who has retired to Thailand at 50 off the back of his transport business. He has about 20 units - he actually owned 9 of them and leased the rest but he owned all the trailers. The ones he owned were older but he had his own yard and his mechanic was a partner in the business and he kept them running. The leases came and went along with the agency drivers who owned them. If he can do it anyone can.

Awesome hope I can achieve something similar. My dad has always been a royal ass to me thinks I’m a failure.
He took me by complete surprise when he helped me buy the truck for the first time he believed in my dream and the vision I have.
That dream is enough to keep me going.
I’ve neeted here and there but I’ve always wanted something that’s mine, life likes to keep torturing me though dangling the carrot out in front of me then pulling it away. Hoping that doesn’t continue with this truck.
Hit rock bottom in 2015 almost called it quits. Survived a major wreck in 2012 started to become convinced a mistake had been made.

I was NEET for a time after the global economy imploded in 2007 and I choose the same time to drop out of university - I was just making a few £ here and there from odd jobs and the dole.Starting full time work was great. As bad as work can be sometimes - especially when there is shit going on or they are putting you under pressure its still better than NEET life in my opinion.

Just think mate - when you own your truck outright and maybe a 2nd one and have some $$$ in the business and maybe have someone to drive for you you can take some hard earned money and go to Thailand and fuck a lot of the bar sluts there.

I do own this one out right.
We cashed out 401ks to buy it.
Spend next year saving up and building business credit so maybe 2022 we’ll be able to buy a few more.

Excellent plan mate - Do you have a yard? You should probably get a yard when you expand and maybe you should learn some "wrenching" as you yanks call it so you can do some of your own repairs and maintenance.

Maintenance is probably beyond me. I can do some basic things and with all the tech crap they throw in them now most of the old time gear jammers out here can’t work on theirs either.
Don’t have a yard yet that’s in the future plans. To start out and learn the business side of things I contracted myself to a national carrier.

W990 looks like a western star rig. Good write up OP. Friend drives for Warner.

I couldn't find a cosigner so i couldn't be a trucker. A buddy of mine was a trucker and got hemorrhoids and fat.

He ended up as a betabuxxer in Wyoming. Living in a doublewide to a landwhale and her pod.

First time I’ve seen a sign like this in the truck parking area of a rest stop.
It’s lazy ass hats pissing everywhere that get us kicked out of places. We use to be able to park at every Walmart not anymore

Truck stop strategy.
One of the biggest problems is there not being enough places for us to go especially in the northeast so over time I’ve developed a strategy.
First thing is to know the area a little bit which is learned over time. Ex would be the pilot in Pittston pa I know that place is packed pretty much 24/7 Home Depot dc across the st from it.
As a general rule I’ve found a lot of drivers are 9-5ers so I scheduled myself around them.
I’ll stop at 2-3 in the afternoon with the latest being 4 in the winter. In summer drivers will start crowding the spots around 7-8 because of the longer days so I can adjust myself a bit.

Picking a spot.
When early enough you pretty much can have your pick.
My choice spots are usually on an end or a corner preferably with terrain or a solid object on one side. I like to pick a spot with lower probability of me getting hit or of getting blocked in.

the truck stop itself can help with this as well most of the chains try to cram in as many spaces as possible. Pilot/flying j is notorious for this with spots being just barely wide enough for the truck.
My favorite chain is love’s.
The loves are often smaller, with wider spaces and most spaces are usually a pull up and straight back which lowers chances of getting whacked.
Spots to avoid are any near the scale as drivers will stack up next to it making it near impossible to get out.
Loves also benefits from being one of the cleaner truck stops if not the cleanest.
Bathrooms are always nice and tidy, showers fresh and clean and trash bins aren’t over flowing.

Only thing that sucks about the t680 is lack of storage space.
Was able to go shopping for the first time since buying the truck and got just about every place crammed full.
Key to life on the road just like at home is to eat out sparingly, gets expensive quick. But not sure if shopping is much better. Spent 200 today and it didn’t really seem to buy much.

Two of the things i wanted most when I was a company driver fridge and microwave eating cold canned crap all the time gets old.

this is the worst cabinet I have. Not tall enough to see beyond the opening nor reach all the way to the back.
