"Of the 348 thousand unemployed in the second quarter of 2023, 189 thousand had less paid work than a year before. In the same quarter a year earlier, this was 166 thousand. This increase was mainly among young people aged 15 to 25. This is evident from new figures from Statistics Netherlands about the employment history of unemployed people."

"Men stay virgin longer
On average, men appear to be virgins for longer than women. Of 25-year-old men, 32 percent have never shared a bed with someone, compared to 22 percent of women. At the age of 40, the number of virgins is already a lot less. Then there are 10 percent of men who are virgins compared to 6 percent of women."

It's a lot easier to be single these days than it used to be. Society has largely adapted to the new form in which people often live alone. According to Latten, this starts when you leave home. 60% of young people who start living on their own go alone. In the past, it was common to move out of the parental home to live with a romantic partner.
There are more and more opportunities for singles to live together without having a relationship involved. Even having and raising a child with someone with whom there is no loving relationship is no longer exceptional."

"In 2017, young people started having sex about a year later than five years earlier. This development applies to all types of sexual acts. For example, half of young people have had sexual intercourse at the average age of 18. Five years earlier, in 2012, that was 17 years. Half of young people French kissed for the first time at the average age of 15.4 years in 2017. In 2012 this was 14.4 years. Between 2005 and 2012, the age at which young people started having sex was virtually the same. This is evident from the study 'Sex under 25' among young people aged 12-25 (Rutgers & Soa Aids Nederland, 2017). This research will be repeated in the period 2022-2024.
In 2019, the 'Sex under 25' study was repeated among students in clusters 3 and 4 of special secondary education. This shows that these young people have less experience with kissing and sex than young people in regular education. Although the majority of 88 percent of boys and 87 percent of girls have been in love, they have French kissed or had sex less often than their peers in regular education. 32 percent of boys have ever had French kissed and 36 percent of girls. 9 percent of boys say they have ever had sexual intercourse. Among girls, this is 16 percent (Rutgers & Soa Aids Nederland, 2019)."

Last year it became clear that 10 percent of young people under the age of 25 feel lonely, and corona added to this: in April, only a month into the crisis, half of young people indicated that they felt lonelier.
